What is fire stopping?

Fire stopping is best defined as the sealing of any openings to prevent fire (including smoke and heat) from passing through multiple building compartments.

The spread of a fire is contained by creating fire resisting compartments, which subdivide the building (vertically or horizontally).

We offer surveys for Commercial buildings and residential blocks.

Some of the main areas of inspection are gaps and open spaces between rooms, Cable management and pipe protection.

Cable management including Cable trays, Trunking and the use of multi Cable firestops will prevent the spread of fire through floors / compartments.

Cavity barriers, cable tray pillows and fire caulk / void fillers can also aid the prevention of fire spreading.

The insulation of pipe work is also an essential part of fire stopping, the use of pipe sleeves, wraps and collars will prevent fire spreading.
